Sawan departed from the Canary Islands of Spain on December 26, 2018, and planned to cross the Atlantic Ocean. The vat he rides has no engines and sails, just relying on ocean currents. The 3 m long and 2.1 m diameter "drift bucket" is made of resin-coated plywood with a net weight of 450 kg. The interior 6 m2 cabin is equipped with a kitchen, a bed, a table with navigation charts and navigation equipment.

Sawan had previously said that as long as he entered the Caribbean, his dream of crossing the Atlantic would be realized. His current "drift bucket" is drifting to Florida, USA, and he plans to travel to the port of Martinique in the French overseas region and find a freighter to transport his "drift bucket" back to France.
The report said that Sawan did not intend to stop the pace of self-improvement, he is prepared to cross the English Channel alone in the future without protection.
